The Local Community Group (LCC)

The Local Community Group, (formally Local Community Committee), is responsible for setting up the Safety House Program within an area. Groups are made up of school and community people coming together to promote children’s safety. A fully functioning Group is vital.

The Local Community Group, which is commonly referred to as an LCC, establishes, operates and maintains the Safety House Program at the local level. The LCC is also responsible for setting up and monitoring the Safety Houses and liaising with the affiliated schools in its zone of responsibility.

The Group will be closely linked with the local school, but should operate independently and include the wider community. An effective and active Local Community Group is the key to maintaining a functional and worthwhile Safety House Program.

It is important that the committee leadership is strong, to provide support and encourage commitment to the safety of our children. Group members are elected at the Annual General Meeting. This meeting also organises the roles of other Group members. It is recommended that a Safety House Group consist of a minimum of six members, to spread the work involved in maintaining the Program.
