Requirements of becoming a Safety House

To become a Safety House, residents or people employed in a business need to:

  • Accept the responsibilities of being a Safety Householder.
  • Have at least one person over 17 years available during the times that children and teenagers are
    travelling to and from school.
  • Have a telephone.
  • Ensure the premises have clear and safe access to the front door or shop entrance.
  • Be prepared for all residents or employees aged 17 years and over to have their details checked
    against police records.
  • Live in the Local Group’s zone of responsibility, if a residence, or work in the zone, if a business.

Safety Householders do not need to have children attending the associated school. You should encourage the wider community to become involved in the Program and the Group. Senior citizens and parents at home with small children are ideal. Shops and businesses on the route to school or in shopping centres where children go after school, are also good locations for Safety Houses.
